The clutch on the lathe side is of the friction type. The clutch on the engine side is of the drum type. The winch drum on the lathe side can be tensioned using a winch handle. This is a manual winch. The winch on the engine side can be tensioned using the engine camshaft.
Secondary drive clutch for Bantam MK.2 petrol lathes. The clutch comprises a drum which is mounted on the main shaft and has an inner sleeve which is driven by the output shaft of the engine. The clutch has to be fitted on the engine either side of the main shaft. When the engine is started the drive to the lathe is by means of the clutch rather than the main shaft and the clutch. This means that the lathe can be started and stopped while the engine is running.

The clutch on the lathe side is friction fitted and drives the drum via a shaft and gearbox. The clutch on the engine side is a drum clutch, which drives a shaft and gearbox. The drum on the lathe side is driven by the shaft and gearbox. The drum on the engine side is driven by a pinion on the shaft and gearbox and a pinion on the engine camshaft.
